The Danforth Neighbourhood of Toronto

The Danforth is known as Toronto’s Greektown. You will find some of the best souvlaki and baklava in this neighbourhood. Check out a concert at the Danforth Music Hall, one of the oldest surviving theatres in Toronto dating back to 1919.

The Danforth has been a popular neighbourhood for first time home buyers as the area begins to gentrify, Danforth homes for sale are more affordable but are growing steadily with the hot Toronto housing market. Danforth homes for sale are tucked away on the residential streets behind the vibrant Danforth stretch and are mostly two and three bedroom semi-detached homes. Some streets are dominated by bungalows and an increasing amount of designer homes are being added in their place. It’s not unusual to see a house sell and completely rebuilt. There is a stretch of high-rise apartment buildings around Broadview and along Cosburn Avenue with an increase in pre-construction condos for sale along the Danforth.

HISTORY

The Danforth is commonly referred to as Toronto’s Greektown having been the major settling area for Greek immigrants after World War 1. Some of the buildings along Danforth Road date back to 1910. The area of Greektown became popular for its many traditional Green restaurants and has now evolved to be a go-to area for a number of international cuisines.
